St. Stephen's Cathedral

Helidon Sandstone supplied by J.H. Wagner & Sons creates many of the feature pieces and cladding of the Francis Rush Centre located at The Cathedral of St. Stephen, Brisbane.  In conjunction with artist and sculptor Dr. Rhyl Hinwood, sandstone from J.H. Wagner & Sons has been used in a bas relief carving of Archbishop James Duhig and sculpture blocks for the outside liturgical space.  Rhyl has used ceramic tile mosiac inlay in several of these pieces as both a highlight to her carving works and pictorial works.  Sandstone tiles on the external wall cladding have been set-out to create a large Cross image.  Prior to the completion of the Francis Rush Centre, J.H. Wagner & Sons had previously carried out extensive restoration and renovation work on the Cathedral building using both existing sandstone and porphyry materials and the supply of new stone walling materials.
