Whether you a designing a Memorial for a loved one, and entry statement or a simple panel choosing the right method of inscription is important. While all methods available at J.H. Wagner & Sons are manufactured to the highest quality, some can be more suitable than others for your requirements. Provided below are a list of what methods are available and with what material they are best suited.
- Incised Letters
- Granite: Inscription is sandblasted into the granite. It can then be gilded with 23 carat gold leaf or painted with exterior grade paint. If you are using a black granite you can leave the letters plain, using the contrast between the polished black granite and the unpolished black granite.
- Sandstone: While it is available with sandstone it is restricted with letter size. Used mainly for large entry statements or signs.
- Raised Letters
- Granite: The background around the lettering is sandstone blasted leaving the polished granite as the letters. The background can then be gilded with 23 carat gold leaf or painted with exterior grade paint. If you are using a black granite you can leave the backgound plain, using the contrast between the polished black granite letters and the unpolished granite background.
- Sandstone: While it is available with sandstone it is restricted with letter size. Used mainly for large entry statements or signs.
- Laser Etched Letters
- Granite: Inscription is laser etched onto the polished granite. Only available with the use of Black polished granite as this method relies on the contrast between the polished black granite and unpolished area.
- Sandstone: It you wish to use Sandstone as your medium you can have a black granite panel attached onto the sandstone.
- Bronze Letters
- Inscription is cast together in bronze with the plaque with the letters being raised, which are then polished. The plaque can then be fixed onto granite, sandstone or concrete.
- Lead Letters
- Marble: This method was very popular in past times. The inscription in sandblasted into the marble and then Lead Letters are anchored into the sandblasted letters. It is not widely used now as the lead letters can become loose and fall out with wear overtime.
- Lead letters in existing marble panels can be tightened and replaced if the marble is still in good condition.
